Sixth Group Completed the Fourth Module of the Program

On September 7 – 9, 2018, the sixth group of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” completed the fourth module devoted to communication with the public and the media, as well as the role of advocacy in the society.

One of the cross-cutting topics of the Program is support for reforms and qualitative changes. It is important for lawyers to master skills that will allow them to become agents of change.

During the module, participants discussed the cooperation with journalists, having at their disposal the results of a survey of journalists and lawyers, which was held earlier by the organizers of the Program.

Lawyers practiced their skills to work in front of camera, mastered interviewing skills and developed a common position on communication strategies in particular cases. When working in groups, the participants developed advocacy programs for some important and relevant initiatives using the theoretical knowledge gained during the module.

The training was attended by Oksana Kikot, manager of the Ukrainian-Canadian project “Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine” Project, Yulia Panasyuk, program manager of the US Embassy in Ukraine, Andriy Vyshnevsky, manager of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program and President of the Ukrainian Bar Association Denys Bugay.

The trainers of the module were Tetyana Troshchinska, Larysa Denysenko and Yaroslava Yurchyshyn. Andriy Kostin and Yulia Lisova joiined the experts of the Program.

The topics of the three-day training covered the following issues:

  • Communication and development of media partnership. Logic and needs of the media;

  • Toxic lexicon in legal communication. The balance between professional vocabulary and accessibility;
