Lawyers and Prosecutors Attended a Joint Training on Communication in Court

On November 7-8, 2018 in Lviv, the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program, in cooperation with the US Embassy in Ukraine, held an intermodule training “The Art of Conduct in Court Hearings”.

Peter Yarosh, US Federal Attorney, currently serving as a Legal Advisor to the US Department of Justice at the US Embassy in Ukraine, and Michael Grant, US Federal Attorney, who works as a Legal Advisor at the US Embassy in the Republic of Georgia were the trainers of the event. They worked together with national experts Lyudmyla Vygovskaya, Legal Advisor at IDLO (International Development Law Organization) and Maryna Starovoytova, lawyer, graduate of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program.

For two days, lawyers, together with prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, worked on the development and improvement of judicial skills. The training covered introductory speech, direct, cross-examination, and closing remarks. The participants worked in groups, improving the practical skills of communication between lawyers and prosecutors.

 “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” is a powerful network of lawyers uniting opinion leaders in the legal profession, who provide legal assistance in accordance with the highest ethical standards, act as agents of change in society and leaders in the professional community.

 The Program was developed during 2016-2017 with the support of The Quality and Accessible Legal Aid Project with an expert contribution from the Canadian Bar Association. In 2018, the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program is being implemented by the Ukrainian Bar Association and the Bar Association of Legal Aid Providers, with the support of the United States Embassy and The Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine Project funded by the Government of Canada and implemented by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE).
