Conflict Of Interest Within The Legal Profession

On June 1, Andrii Vyshnevsky, Leader of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program, and Oleksiy Kuzminsky, a graduate of the first hundred, talked about preventing and solving conflicts of interest in the professional activities of lawyers at the round table “Prevention and settlement of conflicts of interest in the activities of lawyers: problems and solutions” in Lviv.

The event was organized with the support from the Ukrainian-Canadian project “Support to Judicial Reform in Ukraine” and the Council of Judges of Ukraine. The purpose of the round table was to discuss the pressing issues that exist in the application of legislation to prevent and resolve conflicts of interest by the judiciary – judges, prosecutors and lawyers.

On the outcomes of the event it was decided to form a common vision on the means of prevention and resolving conflicts of interest with judges, lawyers and prosecutors, as well as to elaborate a balanced approach to monitoring and procedures for bringing judges, prosecutors and lawyers to justice for violating the requirements of anti-corruption legislation, taking into account the need for judicial independence and guarantees of professional activity of prosecutors and lawyers.

A cross-cutting topic of all modules of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program was the issue of professional ethics. We believe that adherence to the highest ethical standards is the cornerstone of the professional activity of the lawyer, therefore we work to promote these ideas in the legal  community.
