Tomorrow’s Lawyers – Founders Of The Association Of Women Lawyers Of Ukraine

Participants of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program Khrystyna Kit and Galyna Fedkovych together with the program coach Larysa Denysenko and other representatives of the legal community became founders of the Association of Women Lawyers of Ukraine “YurFem”.

On October 9, at the premises of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, the Association of Women Lawyers of Ukraine “YurFem” held a discussion on “Women in the Legal Profession” and presented a so named study entitled “Women in the Legal Profession”. As much as 365 respondents took part in the study. These are the women who work as lawyers at companies, institutions, organizations, advocates, prosecutors and police officers, as well as women who work as teachers of legal disciplines, etc. The results of the survey show that 46.5% of respondents believe that female lawyers are discriminated against in access to the profession. 36.9% of female lawyers responded that they were personally subjected to sexual harassment in their professional activities.

Among the speakers were: Anastasia Deyeva, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs for European Integration; Anna Vronska, coordinator of the UBA Women’s Law Forum; Albina Kadygrob, Member of the Board of the All-Ukrainian Association of Women – Judges and others.

In 2016/2017, 47% of law students graduated from higher education institutions of the III-IV accreditation levels were women. As of September 14, 2017, among the estimated number of lawyers, women made up 35% according to the Uniform Register of Lawyers of Ukraine. As of September 22, 2017, 51.7% of judges were women. In 2016, among professionals who have obtained a candidate’s degree in law 52% were women and 34.2% – doctors of law.
