Transfer Of Knowledge Is A Prerequisite For The Tomorrow’s Legal Profession

On November 28, 2017, participants of the first hundred of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program Denys Linchevsky and Oksana Syora held a training-meeting on the topic “Interaction of the lawyer with the court and other participants of the process” where they shared with the lawyers of Kirovograd region the knowledge gained during the second module of the Program.

With the help of materials developed by the Canadian partners of the Program and adapted by the Ukrainian experts, Oksana and Denys worked with the participants of the training on the issue of establishing effective communication with procedural opponents, adherence to the ethics of communication.

During the meeting lawyers focused on the basic issues of conflict management and communication with toxic clients. This session of the training led to a lively discussion, as it turned out that each of the participants had a sufficiently rich experience of staying under pressure of a toxic partner in communication. Therefore, in the opinion of all participants of the event, mastery of resistance techniques should be a must-have skill in the arsenal of each lawyer.

In addition, the participants in the second and fourth groups of the first hundred paid attention to mastering the skills of an effective advocate’s appearance in court. Among other things, attorneys-participants of the event had the opportunity to practice their defense speech in a model court hearing.

The issues of reforms in the country and the principles of the participation of a lawyer in mediation have not been omitted as well. In the conviction of all participants, this important tool for out-of-court settlement of disputes in the context of reforming procedural legislation is promising and requires additional attention from lawyers. Participants of the event who had certificates on mastering of basic mediation skills and took part in the international Lviv mediation forum also contributed to the thorough discovery of this topic.
