Training on Legal Writing, Kyiv
On January, 11-13, 2019 in Kyiv, the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program holds the fourth training on legal analysis with the support of the US Embassy in Ukraine.
Writing a legal text requires a combination of analysis skills and written communication. How to properly organize the process of analytical thinking and reflect it with the help of language tools – the task of this Training on Legal Writing.
Trainer :
- Oksana Kolubmet. In 2001-2002, as a member of the Fulbright Foundation’s JFDP program, she worked at the University of Pittsburgh Law School to develop legal English curricula and materials for Ukrainian universities.
Experts:
- Peter Jarosz, a US federal prosecutor who is currently a legal adviser to the US Department of Justice at the US Embassy in Ukraine. Prior to working abroad, Mr. Jarosz worked for the United States Attorney’s Office in the Western Wisconsin County and Arizona County, where he dealt with complex financial and corruption crimes. He has been a prosecutor in more than 100 jury trials and more than 50 appeals. He also worked as a temporary judge, a local and state prosecutor, and in a private law firm. Mr. Jarosz holds a bachelor’s and a doctorate in law degree from the University of Arizona and is completing a master’s degree in international law at the University of London.
- Victoria Mitko, lawyer, Chair of the Board of the “Bar Association of Legal Aid Providers”, NGO. She practices law since 1989. Since 2012, she has participated in the development of the Free Legal Aid system as the director of the Center for the provision of FLA in Sevastopol. Since April 2014 – the head of the department of quality assurance of legal aid of the FLA. Victoria was involved as an expert with the Renaissance Foundation and the CoE project “Further Support to Criminal Justice Reform in Ukraine”.
- Andriy Orlean, Head of the Human Rights in Pre-Trial Investigation Program of the Expert Center for Human Rights and Leading Research Fellow, Faculty of Law, Taras Shevchenko National University, Doctor of Law, Associate Professor. He participated in the study “The role of the prosecutor at the pre-trial stage of the criminal process” (2017) and in the study “The role of the procedural manager – the prosecutor of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office at the pre-trial stage” (2018). Involved in the development of standards for pre-trial investigation and training for investigators, prosecutors, operatives and judges, teachers. He worked in the system of prosecutor’s offices and in the system of internal affairs bodies of Ukraine.
- Serhiy Honcharenko, lawyer, expert of the Tomorrow’s Lawyer Program, Candidate of Judicial Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Human Rights, International and European Law of the Academy of Advocacy of Ukraine, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine. Interned at Canada’s leading law firms under the auspices of the Canadian Bar Association. Ad hoc judge of the European Court of Human Rights, 2011–2012 and from 2014 to the present. Vice President of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine, 2011–2016.
