Fourth Training on Legal Writing

On February 8-10, 2019 in Kyiv, the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program held the fourth training on legal analysis and writing.

The event was organized with the support of the US Embassy in Ukraine for graduating students from the first and second hundreds of the Program.

The trainer Oksana Kolubmet, taught lawyers to organize the process of analytical thinking. The experts in the training were Victoria Mitko, Head of the Board the “Bar Association of Legal Aid Providers, doctor of judiciary; Andriy Orlean, Head of the Human Rights in Pre-trial Investigation Program, of Human Rights Expert Center; and Serhiy Goncharenko, expert of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program, Professor, Head of the Department of Human Rights, International and European Law of the Academy of Advocacy of Ukraine.

During the three-day training participants learned:

  • how the logical structure of the text depends on the structure of the norm;
  • how we perceive and process information;
  • text-analysis formats;
  • what elements affect the structure of the text, and
  • what we can refute and how to counteract.

“Tomorrow’s Lawyer” is a powerful network of lawyers uniting opinion leaders in the legal profession, who provide legal assistance in accordance with the highest ethical standards, act as agents of change in society and leaders in the professional community.

 The “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program was launched in 2016 and first implemented within the “Quality and Accessible Legal Aid” Project, carried out by the Canadian Bureau for International Education with the support of the Government of Canada in cooperation with the Legal Aid Coordination Centre. It is currently being implemented and developed with the support of the US Embassy’s Law Enforcement Section in Ukraine, the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” NGO, in partnership with the Ukrainian Bar Association and the Bar Association of Legal Aid Providers.
