1. GENERAL PROVISIONS The “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” program is a partnership initiative of the Ukrainian legal NGOs supported by the international donors to create a unique platform for training, exchange of experience and best practices for lawyers in order to strengthen their leadership role in implementing reforms in the field of law and justice, improving the ethical standards of the legal profession, providing people with access to justice and quality legal aid.
Participants of the Program – lawyers who are ready to provide legal assistance in accordance with the highest ethical standards, are agents of changes in the field of justice and leaders in the professional community.
- ORGANIZERS, PARTNERS OF THE PROGRAM
The “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” program is being implemented by the Ukrainian Bar Association and the Bar Association of Legal Aid Providers, with the support of the United States Embassy and the “Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine” Project, funded by the Government of Canada and implemented by the Canadian Bureau for International Education . The “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program was developed during 2016-2017 with the support of the project “Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine” with an expert contribution from the Canadian Bar Association.
The Ukrainian Bar Association aims at developing the legal profession, improving the legislation, implementing ethical standards, protecting the professional rights of the UBA members and human rights in general.
“Bar Association of Legal Aid Providers” – non-governmental organization uniting citizens involved in advocacy and human rights activities, established with the aim of improving the qualification of lawyers providing legal aid and protecting their rights. The Association joins together lawyers who provide free legal aid, including those who provide such assistance on pro bono basis. There are separate units located in 24 regions and in the city of Kiev uniting more than 1000 lawyers.
The project “Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine” aims to improve equal access to justice for the population of Ukraine (especially the representatives of vulnerable groups) by supporting the introduction of a system of free legal aid and raising the level of public awareness about the right to free legal aid.
Canada provides significant support to Ukraine at the international level, and also helps Ukraine to implement democratic and economic reforms. In order to support reforms, as well as meet poverty reduction needs, Canada promotes sustainable economic growth, the rule of law and democratic governance in Ukraine. In addition, Canada provides humanitarian assistance and supports reconstruction in the East of Ukraine.
For many years, the United States has been providing expert and resource support to Ukraine in various fields, including in the area of building a justice system and establishing the rule of law. The US Embassy and the US Embassy’s Law Enforcement Section in Ukraine consistently promote the adoption of the best standards of justice. Such cooperation with the law enforcement agencies and the justice system is aimed at combating corruption and setting new standards in the triangle of justice, and in particular within the legal profession.
- TERMS OF PARTICIPATION
3.1 Participants of the Program filling out an application for participation in the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program distributed in a google form, shall familiarize themselves with the rules of the Program and agree thereto.
3.2 The “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program consists of 4 training modules. Participants of the Program are divided into 4 training groups at the discretion of the Organizers.
3.3 Only the participants of the Program shall take part in the training organized within the Program. A participant of the Program shall attend the training sessions only within his/her assigned group (except for the cases specified in clause 3.5).
3.4 Each of the groups are being supervised by an expert who together with a coach takes an active part in the training process. Program experts are the practicing lawyers and lawyers with considerable experience.
3.5 Given that the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program is designed as integral and comprehensive, the participants are required to attend all four modules and be present during all days/hours of the training. The absence of a participant may become the grounds for his/her exclusion from the Program.
In case of necessity to be absent for valid reasons, the participant shall notify the Program Organizers about his/her absence at least 5 days prior to the start of the training, stating the reasons. This notification shall be directed to info@tomorrowslawyer.org. If there are valid grounds, the Program Organizers may invite such participant to attend a particular Module with another group, subject to availability. Otherwise the participant may be excluded from the Program. The absence of the participant for a part of the training days may also become grounds for the exclusion from the Program.
- RULES OF CONDUCT OF THE PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS
4.1 Participant of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program is a representative of the legal profession possessing high ethical and moral standards. All participants to the training process are committed to being tolerant and respectful of other participants, their thoughts, views and beliefs.
4.2 Participants are prohibited from conducting audio or video recording of the training process. It is forbidden to use a mobile phone at the training. All participants of the training shall either turn off the phone or move it to silent mode.
4.3 Participants are prohibited from distributing on the Internet or among colleagues photos of flip chart slides with information presented in the course of the training, as well as photos of exercises performed by participants during the training. This information is for internal use only.
4.4 By becoming a participant of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program, you automatically consent to the organizers for conducting photo and audio recording of the educational process in order to prepare reporting deliverables of the Program.
4.5 Participants are required to observe confidentiality, which presupposes the non-disclosure of personal opinions expressed by any participant of the Program.
4.6 Participants are prohibited from using and distributing educational materials without a direct reference to the source – the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program. The rules for distributing the Program materials can be found by the link.
4.7 Participants are prohibited from transmitting and distributing educational materials to other participants from those groups who have not yet completed the training.
4.8 All participants are required to wear a badge during all training days.
4.9 During the training days participants are obliged to adhere strictly to the discipline and training schedule determined by the coaches and organizers.
4.10 Participants are obliged to adhere to the rules of conduct at the hotel of residence.
4.11 Violation of the discipline or the schedule of the training process may become grounds for excluding the participant from the Program without the right to renew.
- COMMUNICATION
5.1 Communication with the participants of the Program is carried out by e-mail and, in exceptional cases, by telephone.
5.2 The participant shall inform the organizers promptly (no later than three days) in case of any change in contact details, namely telephone number or postal address indicated in the application form.
5.3 Participants shall regularly (at least once every 3 days) check the mail for information from the Program Organizers and respond promptly to requests within the timeframes specified in the letters. Systematic communication delays in the participant’s fault may result in exclusion from the Program.
5.4 The communication of the organizers with the participants takes place only with the participant of the Program directly without intermediaries (secretaries, assistants, etc.).
5.5 The participants undertake to respond objectively and regularly to the feedback forms based on the training results.
5.6 In order to effectively implement the Program, participants are required to perform homework, as well as work with the hand-out materials they receive from the organizers.
5.7 Program Participants shall not use a signature stating that he/she is a member of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program without the direct permission of the Program Organizers. Participation in discussions and other events as a participant in the Program shall be made exclusively through an invitation to such event in this capacity directed to the organizers of the Program. The Program Participant undertakes to agree with the organizers of the Program any indication that he/she is a member/participant of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program.
- ACCOMMODATION, TRAVEL AND NUTRITION
6.1 The Organizers provide participants with accommodation in standard double rooms during their training modules. The Program team will try to take into account the wishes of the participants regarding the accommodation.
6.2 Participants are provided with daily nutrition, which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner and coffee breaks during the training days.
6.3 The Participant of the Program shall independently arrange for his/her travel to the training venue, this cost being a personal contribution to the Program. Travel costs are not covered by the Organizers.
- LIABILITY OF PARTICIPANTS
7.1 Participants assume financial responsibility for damaging the property of the hotel or the training venue, which resulted from their fault during the training.

- FINAL PROVISIONS
The organizers reserve the right to amend or supplement these rules and inform the Program Participants in a timely manner.
Program Participants are required to adhere to these rules.
