Meet Trainers and Assistants of Module II of the Tomorrow’s Lawyer Program

We are glad to present the trainers and assistants of Module II of the third season of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program, who will train lawyers to build collegial relations within the justice system.

Certified business coach Svitlana Savchuk, who has already worked with the participants in the Module I, will elaborate the topic “Communication with the court and procedural opponents: Complex and toxic communication. Negotiations”. Svitlana has more than 15 years of experience in business education; she is the author and trainer of international corporate programs in the development of managerial and leadership skills. 

Peter Jarosz, Legal Adviser to the US Department of Justice at the US Embassy in Ukraine, will teach lawyers to build effective communication with witnesses, conduct direct and cross-examination and prepare a convincing closing speech. Mr Jarosz has more than 100 jury trials and more than 50 appeals where he participated as a prosecutor.

Tamara Bugaiets, a graduate of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program will serve as an assistant to Svitlana Savchuk. Tamara passed training for trainers (ToTs) to develop the skills of working with vulnerable groups of clients of the Free Legal Aid System, organized by the “Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine” Project in cooperation with the Coordination Center for Free Legal Aid Providing. Tamara has conducted more than ten trainings in communication and protecting the rights of victims of domestic violence. She is an expert on Council of Europe projects.

Peter Jarosz’s assistant will be Roman Shpyrka, a graduate of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program. Roman is a skill development coach in dealing with vulnerable clients of the Free Legal Aid System. He has also passed training for trainers (ToTs) to develop the skills of working with vulnerable groups of clients of the Free Legal Aid System, organized by the “Quality and Accessible Legal Aid in Ukraine” Project” together with the Coordination Center for Free Legal Aid Providing. Roman is active in social activities, in particular, this year he was elected to the Board of the UBA Branch in Lviv region.

During the Module II, the participants of the third hundred will study and practice the following topics:

  • Establishing effective communication with procedural opponents. Ethics of communication.
  • Handling toxic and complicated communication.
  • Conflict management and communication with an aggressive counterpart.
  • Direct and cross examination of witnesses.
  • Strong advocate’s speech in court.

The Module II activities for the third hundred of “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” participants start on May 31, 2019.

The “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program was launched in 2016 and first implemented within the “Quality and Accessible Legal Aid” Project, carried out by the Canadian Bureau for International Education with the support of the Government of Canada in cooperation with the Legal Aid Coordination Centre. It is currently being implemented and developed with the support of the US Embassy’s Law Enforcement Section in Ukraine, the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” NGO, in partnership with the Ukrainian Bar Association and the Bar Association of Legal Aid Providers.
