Tomorrow’s Lawyers Analyzed The Criminal Procedural Code

An international conference “Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine: Problems of Application and Prospects for Improvement” was held in Kyiv, dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the adoption of the Criminal Procedural Code in new edition.

The conference was organized by the Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement, together with the Committee on Legal Policy and Justice with the support of the Consultative Mission of the European Union in Ukraine. The event focused on the  actual problems that arise when applying certain provisions of the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine and possible ways of resolving them.

During the conference panel discussions with the participants of “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program took place. Namely, a Program participant Oksana Dyetinko made an analysis of correspondence criminal proceedings under the rules of the new Criminal Procedural Code. In particular, the lawyer compared the peculiarities of the use of extra-judicial criminal proceedings in Ukraine with international experience and suggested ways to improve it.

Also, Yevgen Grushovets, a member of the second group of  the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program presented his report. The lawyer talked about the practice of defending the rights of victims under the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine.

People’s deputies, heads and representatives of law enforcement agencies, leading international experts, representatives of public and international organizations also attended the conference. Thus, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Vadym Troyan, the Chairman of the Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement Andriy Kozhemyakin, the Advisor to the Council of Europe’s Projects and the Former Prosecutor of Georgia Eric Swanidze, the former President of the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA) Denys Bugay.

In addition, Mykyta Nuralin, a participant of the Program, and the expert of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine Volodymyr Sushchenko, attended the conference.
