Conversation about ethics, profession and principles of work with human rights activist Anna Konli
No client will be worth your ethical reputation,
– Anna Konli
On September 1, 2018 in Kyiv, participants of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program at the invitation of the United States Embassy in Ukraine attended a lunch with Dr. Anna Konli, a public defender at the Missouri County Prosecutor’s Office in Montana.
Anna Conley is well known for her cases related to constitutional law and civil law lawsuits in Missouri County. Anna works as an attorney at the American Civil Liberties Union in Montana. Ms. Conley successfully represented clients in complex and large-scale litigation, including collective actions.
Anna shared her professional experience as a lawyer and professor, and told about the lessons she had taken during her career. Her advice was about successful approaches to protecting clients in complex cases, the importance of building relationships and rules for maintaining integrity and reputation in turbulent environments.
The participants of the meeting talked about ethics in the legal profession, a sense of fear that has occasionally encountered in everyday life when performing complex and sometimes-dangerous tasks; how to find a balance between work and personal life, and how a sense of humor helps in turbulent times.
