Participants Of The Program Took Part In The Uba Judicial Forum
On September 28-29, the Ukrainian Bar Association organized VI Judicial Forum – The Future Judiciary: Perspectives, Innovations and Challenges. The Judicial Forum is one of the largest and most influential events of the year in the country’s legal market. As usual, the event has become a meeting place for law professionals and in particular the Tomorrow’s Lawyers.
Participants of the Program Sergiy Zhukov and Oleksiy Kuzminskyy spoke in the discussion “Lawyer of the New Generation”. Among the participants in the discussion were Ivan Gorodyskyy, Director of the School of Law of the Ukrainian Catholic University and Oleksandr Bilous, First Deputy Prosecutor of Mykolaiv Oblast. The topic of the discussion was the formation of a new generation of lawyers, trust and adherence to legal ethics and best standards of the profession.
Sergiy Zhukov noted that the new composition of the Supreme Council will face a variety of challenges – judges will not only have to return confidence in the court, but also make their professional activities more transparent, and that is extremely important, understandable to people from non-legal community. To do this, each judge must know perfectly the law, give sufficient reasoning and understand the history and philosophy of justice. Everyone must profess legal values not only in the profession, but also to follow them in everyday life.
Oleksiy Kuzminskyy also spoke about the challenges of the profession. In his opinion, lawyers of all professions should become a single community, united around such fundamental values as independence, integrity, the establishment and protection of human rights. It is important for the legal community to turn into self-purification and become intolerant of any manifestation of corruption. Also, lawyers need to develop communication skills in building relations with the client, colleagues and procedural opponents, and leadership qualities. That is what can restore the trust in lawyers. Oleksandr Kuzminsky also drew attention to the gap between the generations of lawyers, which can be solved by restoring the institute of mentoring within the community. All this in combination can be a recipe for restoring community trust to lawyers and justice system altogether.
Also the participants of the second group of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program Mykyta Nuralin and Oksana Dyetinko took part in the VI Judicial Forum. Mykyta Nuralin also today together with Olga Lopushanska, GR coordinator of the UBA, presented a draft report on the results of the monitoring of the activities and decisions of the Public Council of Integrity in the context of the Council of Europe standards and recommendations for the representatives of the Council of Europe, the High Qualification Commission of Judges, the Council of Judges, the Public Council for Integrity, the judiciary and the legal community.
