Training: Effective Communication as a Foundation of a Successful Lawyer
On May 24, 2019, the Young Lawyers Committee of the Bar Council of Odessa region together with NGO “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” conducted a training on the topic: “Effective Communication as a Foundation of a Successful Lawyer”.
The trainers were graduates of the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” Program – Maryna Sayenko and Roman Shpyrka. The trainers were certified by UNBA and have completed the Training of Trainers (TOT) to develop the skills of working with vulnerable groups of clients of the Free Legal Aid System, organized by the Quality and Affordable Legal Aid in Ukraine (QALA) Project together with the Coordination Center for Legal Aid Providing.
During the training, the lawyers improved their knowledge and skills in the following areas:
- The first contact of a lawyer with a client is the only chance to make the right impression;
- Rules of non-toxic communication with the client;
- The value of quality customer interviewing;
- Active listening skills;
- How can a lawyer speak to a client in one language?
- Practical recommendations for establishing a constructive dialogue between lawyer and client.
- What lawyers need to know about themselves in order to maintain their professionalism?
At the opening of the training, the Chair of the Bar Council of Odessa region Joseph Bronz delivered a lecture on the topic: “Lawyer’s ethics: perspectives for the future and development”.

It is currently being implemented and developed with the support of the US Embassy’s Law Enforcement Section in Ukraine, the “Tomorrow’s Lawyer” NGO, in partnership with the Ukrainian Bar Association and the Bar Association of Legal Aid Providers.
